a poem: 1000 pieces of cork

Title was a poetry prompt...the following was revealed...

What is life?
But to be intimate with a thousand things at once
To notice the ever changing flow of existence
And yet also the presence of the unchanging
Together
All at once.

What is this life?
Dizzy
Fragmented
Fragrantful
A thousand shifting perspectives unable to find
Marriage
Harmony
Tolerance.

What is this separated life?
Deadened concrete lays plonked ontop of fertile soil
We humans are experts at displacement…of people, of places, of ants and blades of grass
Nature’s becoming a far cry away for so many
Yet forever moves in her throes of generosity
Breathing for us
Cleansing us
Grounding us
Inspiring us
Holding us
Quietly longing for our reciprocal act of tenderness.

You ask: what is life? this life? this separated life?
Sometimes the answers are in unexpected places
The places we are treading without much thought
Oddly part of us but seemingly separate…

Could we find them by putting on a pair of Burkenstock
And feeling a thousand pieces of cork
Touching the earth
Living underfoot
Harmoniously
All together
All at once
With presence, aliveness, gratitude.

And what of the answer?

I will leave that up to you to discover…
