earthyplates leig às

leig às

£85.00

Scots Gaelic for: ‘let go’.

This organic jug was unearthed in Mexico in 2023 using small batch glazes and local Oaxacan clay. I hand-built her in a wonderful little studio called Alquima Taller in Oaxaca City. I only made a handful of pieces during my time in Oaxaca and each is wildly different due to the nature of the original clay (barro) and the techniques I played with thereafter.

‘leig às’ was an exploration into my own ability to let go. Having made ceramics for the last seven years predominately with a wheel, and being somewhat allergic to handbuilding I was amazed by how much I grew through my choice - and encouragement - to let go and attempt to make a jug organically using coils. Beyond joyed by the outcome! I also played with a new glazing technique where I slowly and rhythmically layered two glazes by brush...coexisting, collaborating, communicating. What a beautiful way to live and certainly a technique I am curious to explore more with.

Approximate measurements:  0.91lb // H:14cm // W:8cm

Like all the mysterious fauna and flora we co-inhabit with, my ceramics are unique - what you own will not be replicated. Please do take care!
